House

This was an assignment done in 3DS Max for a computer aided design class I took. The house structure was provided, and I added the door and the windows in Revit. The main goal of the project was to apply colors and textures to the house in 3DS Max.

To put the shutters on the house, I found this seamless image (left) and edited it in Adobe to be the color that I wanted. To get the image correctly patterned onto the sides, I used a UVW map modifier to specify the how the tiles were applied in order to make them appear the correct size. The roof tiles (right) were done using the same process.

Using an opacity map, I created a picket fence in front of the house. I wasn't the most pleased with how this turned out, particularly up close, but from further away it provides the look of a picket fence which was the goal.

To create the grass, I used this grass image (left) as my material, and another UVW map modifier to adjust the sizing. In addition, I used a NURBS surface to adjust points on the plane of the grass and give it a hilly surface texture. The lighting was done using a sun positioner which gives the blue background and can also be used for a sunset if the scene were to be animated.

To get the shutters on the house I added boxes to side of the windows on 3DS Max and then applied the image of the shutter (left) to the surface of each box.
