When I discovered that make laser cutting earrings was so enjoyable, I wanted to share this craft with others. I have a job at the makerspace, Nolop, in Tuft's engineering building, and I chose to run an earring workshop that gave people a crafting opportunity in addition to teaching them how to use the laser cutter. 

     It can take a lot of time for people to design their own earrings, so I designed three Halloween earring options (shown left) that people could select from to streamline the process. Also, I had previously made the rainbows and included them as an earring for people to make if they wanted. The ghosts were designed in SolidWorks using primarily splines and then I imported the design to Adobe Illustrator. For the spiders and pumpkins I used Adobe Illustrator to convert images from google into files the laser cutter could interpret. 

     For this workshop, I wanted to bring a wide variety of students into Nolop. The makerspace tends to be primarily occupied by engineers, but it is open to everyone, and is a resource that can be helpful to know about. I decided to co-run this workshop with another organization on campus, The Women's Center, because it introduced a lot of non-engineering women into Nolop, and part of my goal was to emphasize that Nolop is for everyone and can be used for crafting as well as for engineering.
